/[so don't mention the war]\
Analytical. Experimental. Perverse. Predatory. Substantially nicer to women than men. Views people as objects rather than people. Dirty old man. Somewhat inexplicably popular with women. Never more alive than when he's discovered something. Would choose to know and understand all the knowledge in the universe if he could. Pragmatic but still a visionary in his own right. Blunt. Unnecessarily complicated. Unbendingly patient. Impatient. Understands that certain things in this world outweigh the importance of his life and others'. Loves his son. Or at least what he represents.

More attractive than I had him pegged before Last Order came out. About 5'10'' at his full height; his horrible posture shrinks him to about 5'7''. Quite skinny. Long black hair that manages to be messy even when kept out of his way in a ponytail. Has a rather gaunt, angular face and nondescript brown eyes, usually protected by round glasses. If he ever gets around to injecting Mako into his own body, they'll probably end up green. His standard outfit consists of dark slacks, a lab coat, and a shirt more casual than is probably appropriate for a business setting. Wears a suit once in a while. Only when he needs to. He believes it's infinitely more important to be practical than stylish.

Hojo is heterosexual. One is actually more surprised to see that than "asexual," perhaps, but what we've seen in the game would actually indicate to me that Hojo likes women and he likes them quite a bit. Especially younger women. In any case, they appear to find something about him irresistibly sexy, so we are likely to assume that he's got some handy flirting skills up his sleeve. He rather likes social occasions for this reason. In spite of such success with women, however, he hasn't been laid in a few years. He hasn't been in a relationship since Lucrecia.

/[what fools boredom breeds]\
Hojo was born in Wutai to a fairly well-off family when he first demonstrated his voracious appetite for discovery. Something of a prodigy (though some might just call him a workaholic-in-training), he left Wutai to attend college in Junon at the age of sixteen. His vehement rejection of his culture's worship of the god Leviathan created some tension between his family and himself, and after the (natural) deaths of both his parents when he was in his thirties, he severed all ties with the land before the war would break out. Eventually, Hojo came to be employed at what was then Shinra Electric Power Company-- actually a power company, that is, before their influence spread over the entirety of the Planet and "necessitated" the commencement of arms production and a standing army. Before Shinra became law, that is. Hojo's been there almost since the beginning. Early in his career, Hojo crossed paths with a young employee of the Department of Administrative Research: a Turk named Vincent Valentine. Valentine had clear designs on one of Hojo's colleagues, Lucrecia, when both worked underneath one Professor Gast as his subordinates. Though it's unclear what exactly happened after that, Lucrecia not only entered into a relationship with Hojo, but eagerly participated in an experiment with their son and the recently-discovered "Cetra," JENOVA. We are to assume she died giving birth to him or shortly before, and Hojo's reaction to this is yet indeterminable. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, the child they produced together was in the name of science, rather than love. Though Lucrecia's ethics finally began to conflict with her actions prior to her death, she didn't live long enough to make amends for it. Hojo raised Sephiroth under the wing of Shinra without telling him a thing of his father--only that his mother was a Cetra named Jenova.
